Zend Framework 1.7 focuses on RIA (Rich Internet Application), and Zend technology supports Adobe's AMF (Mobile Mail Format).

Zend Framework version 1.7, the latest version of the company's architecture for building PHP web applications, was released at the 2008 Adobe Summit Conference in San Francisco. With AMF support, PHP developers can exchange data between PHP applications on the server and Flex and Flash applications on the client.

Wil Sinclair, development manager of Zend's advanced technology group, said: "Developing Adobe's Flex and AIR (Adobe's integrated runtime) applications using PHP will become easier."

The Other features of Zend Framework 1.7 include performance enhancements that increase load times by 25 to 50 percent, the company said. Additionally, it features a native DB2 adapter for accessing IBM i platform DB2/400 data and an updated Dojo AJAX toolkit that includes a new dijit editor. Although Zend selected Dojo as its JavaScript library support, Zend will provide jQuery AJAX library integration services.

Version 1.7 supports Twitter, so Twitter can still be used in Zend applications without requiring a Twitter interface.

Zend Framework 1.8 is expected to be released in early 2009. At that time, in order to make applications easier, Zend will focus on RAD (Rapid Application Development). Tools such as command line interface will be provided.
