I haven’t written PHP for a long time. Today, when I was using it, a strange garbled code error suddenly appeared. I was surprised and inexplicable! , let’s take a look at my troubleshooting method to give a reference to friends who encounter the same problem.

A long-standing project has to be restarted inexplicably today. This project is a xampp environment - don’t know xampp? Just Google it, I won’t say more about this.

In the beginning, I was familiar with the process, apahce configuration, php configuration... there were no problems along the way. Start accessing, and the problem arises. It is strange that the page that is expected to be able to run has an unexpected garbled code problem.

The first thing that comes to mind is apache’s default character set, so I add it to apache’s language extension configuration file:

AddDefaultCharset UTF-8

My website page is utf-8, and restarting it did not have the expected effect - that is, it has no effect! All efforts were ineffective, and half an hour was wasted on httpd.conf. Starting to feel depressed...

Half an hour passed, I smoked a cigarette, and thought that phpinfo might be able to help, so I opened phpinfo and was shocked. In the Content-Type item under the HTTP Response Headers column, the words text/html gbk suddenly appeared. Oh my god——, why is it gbk. So I searched for various settings again, and found that there was no httpd.conf, and none of the gbk stuff was found in any of the extensions...

Depressed...

php.ini, I finally found it. I don’t know which birdie has opened the settings of this place and it’s not correct. Which place?

default_charset = “gbk”

This place is killing me! So it was modified to:
default_charset = “UTF-8″

Restart and everything is normal! But we can't harm people, so we thought about removing it and seeing if it would work. After removing it, everything was still normal - the page display encoding control returned to the page itself.
