The PHP Zip files functions are used to store a bunch of files or directories together in the compressed. The Zip is the archive file format that is used to store the files in compressed form. The Zip archive conveniently stores many files or directories together in compressed form for storing and sharing them. The PHP Zip files are not built-in functions in PHP, as other built-in functions are available in PHP, so we need to install the class if it is not present; if we are using PHP 5 or another newer version, then the extensions required are free to download and install. The Zip extension requires libzip.

To work with the Zip files, we need to perform the installation as follows –
Linux users (PHP 5+):
- Linux users must download and include the PHP Zip functions and library as they are not built in by default.
- Ensure that libzip version 0.11 or later is installed, with a recommended version of 0.11.2 or later.
- During PHP compilation, use the configuration option –with-libzip=DIR to include Zip support.
- To enable the Zip function, PHP must be compiled with the –enable-zip flag.
Windows users (PHP 5+):
- Similar to Linux, the PHP Zip functions and library are not built in by default for Windows users.
- Download and enable the php_zip.dll file, which is located inside the php.ini configuration file, to utilize the Zip functions.
- Note that in PHP 5.3, this extension is already built in, so no additional steps are necessary.
Functions
While working with Zip files, we need to use some of the functions mentioned below –
- zip_open(): Opens a ZIP file archive for reading.
- zip_read(): Reads the next file in an open ZIP file archive.
- zip_entry_open(): Opens a directory entry in the ZIP file for reading.
- zip_entry_read(): Reads from an open directory entry in the ZIP file.
- zip_entry_compressedsize(): Retrieves the compressed file size of a ZIP directory entry.
- zip_entry_compressionmethod(): Retrieves the compression method of a ZIP directory entry.
- zip_entry_filesize(): Retrieves the actual size of the file of a ZIP directory entry.
- zip_entry_name(): Retrieves the name of a ZIP directory entry.
- zip_close(): Closes the ZIP file archive.
- zip_entry_close(): Closes the ZIP directory entry.

Example of PHP Zip files to create the Zip file-
Next, we write the PHP code to understand the PHP Zip files more clearly with the following example, where the Zip file is used to store the bunch of files and directories together in the compressed form, as below –
Example #1
First, we will create the folder and then create the files or directory which we want to bundle and Zip them; then we use the PHP code to Zip them.
Code:
<?php // give the path of directory whose file we want to Zip $dir_path = "C:/xampp/htdocs/programs/"; // give the name to create the zipped directory $zipfile = "ExZip.zip"; // Creating the new zip class $zip_obj = new ZipArchive; if( $zip_obj -> open( $zipfile, ZipArchive::CREATE ) === TRUE ) { // open the directory at the gien path into the variable $dir = opendir( $dir_path ); while( $file = readdir( $dir )) { if( is_file( $dir_path.$file )) { $zip_obj -> addFile( $dir_path.$file, $file ); } } $zip_obj ->close(); } ?>
Output:
As in the above code, it is having the directory path(from where all the files are to Zip) and the file name(by what name the zip file is to be create). First, the ZipArchive class object is created by using this code “$zip_obj = new ZipArchive;” then iterate all the files available in that directory path and then by using ZipArchive object, the files are added to the Zip archive by using this code “$zip_obj -> addFile( $dir_path.$file, $file );.”
Example #2
Example of PHP Zip files to Unzip the Zip file-
Next, we write the PHP code to understand the PHP Zip files, where the Zip file is unzipped to extract all the zipped files or directory here, as below –
Code:
<?php // Enter the path of directory $dir_path = "C:/xampp/htdocs/programs/"; // give the name to create the zipped directory $zipfile = "ExZip.zip"; // create new zip class object $zip_obj = new ZipArchive; $file = $dir_path.$zipfile; print("The Zip file location is : "); print($file); // Add zip filename which we need to unzip $zip_obj->open( $file ); // Extract all the Zip files to the current directory $zip_obj->extractTo('./'); $zip_obj->close(); ?>
Output:
As in the above code, it has the directory path and the file name(which file is to unzip). First, the ZipArchive class object is created by using this code “$zip_obj = new ZipArchive;” Then, by using ZipArchive object, the file is open from that path, and then extract all the files which were added to the Zip archive by using this code “$zip_obj -> extractTo(‘./’);”.

To protect the application from session-related XSS attacks, the following measures are required: 1. Set the HttpOnly and Secure flags to protect the session cookies. 2. Export codes for all user inputs. 3. Implement content security policy (CSP) to limit script sources. Through these policies, session-related XSS attacks can be effectively protected and user data can be ensured.

Methods to optimize PHP session performance include: 1. Delay session start, 2. Use database to store sessions, 3. Compress session data, 4. Manage session life cycle, and 5. Implement session sharing. These strategies can significantly improve the efficiency of applications in high concurrency environments.

In PHP, you can use the session_name() function to configure the session name. The specific steps are as follows: 1. Use the session_name() function to set the session name, such as session_name("my_session"). 2. After setting the session name, call session_start() to start the session. Configuring session names can avoid session data conflicts between multiple applications and enhance security, but pay attention to the uniqueness, security, length and setting timing of session names.

The session ID should be regenerated regularly at login, before sensitive operations, and every 30 minutes. 1. Regenerate the session ID when logging in to prevent session fixed attacks. 2. Regenerate before sensitive operations to improve safety. 3. Regular regeneration reduces long-term utilization risks, but the user experience needs to be weighed.

Setting session cookie parameters in PHP can be achieved through the session_set_cookie_params() function. 1) Use this function to set parameters, such as expiration time, path, domain name, security flag, etc.; 2) Call session_start() to make the parameters take effect; 3) Dynamically adjust parameters according to needs, such as user login status; 4) Pay attention to setting secure and httponly flags to improve security.

The main purpose of using sessions in PHP is to maintain the status of the user between different pages. 1) The session is started through the session_start() function, creating a unique session ID and storing it in the user cookie. 2) Session data is saved on the server, allowing data to be passed between different requests, such as login status and shopping cart content.

How to share a session between subdomains? Implemented by setting session cookies for common domain names. 1. Set the domain of the session cookie to .example.com on the server side. 2. Choose the appropriate session storage method, such as memory, database or distributed cache. 3. Pass the session ID through cookies, and the server retrieves and updates the session data based on the ID.

mPDF
mPDF is a PHP library that can generate PDF files from UTF-8 encoded HTML. The original author, Ian Back, wrote mPDF to output PDF files "on the fly" from his website and handle different languages. It is slower than original scripts like HTML2FPDF and produces larger files when using Unicode fonts, but supports CSS styles etc. and has a lot of enhancements. Supports almost all languages, including RTL (Arabic and Hebrew) and CJK (Chinese, Japanese and Korean). Supports nested block-level elements (such as P, DIV),
