It’s your first foray into Rebellion’s Atomfall, a post-apocalyptic survival-action game set in England. As a result, you can expect plenty of dodgy accents, tea, cornish pasties, and Britishisms such as the need to call people ‘boffins’ on a regular basis. That said, Atomfall has plenty of secrets to uncover, as well as a grand, overarching quest to escape this weird British wasteland we’ve woken up in.
To help you make the most of your experience of Atomfall, we’ve put together some general tips and tricks below, as well as all of our guides to aid you with finding items, completing quests, and finding some sort of way out of here.

Here are some general tips and tricks to help you with getting started in Atomfall. We’ve also listed guides for main quests, key item locations, and more below.
Difficult is fully customisable, take advantage of it
When playing Atomfall for the first time, you’ll be prompted to choose the right difficulty for your playstyle. This isn’t the typical easy, normal, and hard difficulty choice, however. Atomfall lets you specifically tweak the difficulty of each aspect of the game, allowing you to have easier combat but more challenging survival aspects or vice versa. This allows you to customise the experience however you please.
This can also be changed as you play, if you find that some aspects of the game feel easier or harder than you’d like. For example, I started with an average difficulty across the board before later bumping my combat down to ‘casual’ so I could get the satisfaction of mowing down foes with a Sickle without as much a risk to my life (and progress). Later down the line, I even put the exploration aspects of the game on ‘assisted’ – largely to help with writing this guide (and others) – as this then labels which of your leads are main quests, what objectives each note you read is actually pointing you towards, and so forth.
Experiment with the difficulty options and see what works for you; they’re there for a reason, after all!
Save often
By default, Atomfall is set to autosave every three minutes. You can adjust this to make your game save every one or two minutes, or at even longer intervals. That said, you should also make some manual saves here and there at the game’s most pivotal moments – or after you’ve done a particularly long run to a hostile area. There’s nothing worse than dying quickly in said hostile area and needing to run all the way back again upon reloading.
On top of that, it’s worth noting that the main quest in Atomfall can go a few different ways, all of which will see you siding with a different NPC. There are a few decisions to make during this whole process, and I recommend saving just before you make any of those decisions, just on the off-chance that – speaking from experience – you may accidentally lock yourself out of completing a quest you were interested in.
Use your resources carefully
Using your resources carefully in Atomfall should be a top priority. For example, don’t waste ammunition on fights you don’t need to take; try to melee or use bow and arrow on them instead, saving your bullets for tougher fights later on. Ammunition is a scarce resource in Atomfall, and I’d suggest it’s best saved for when you’ve upgraded a firearm and can do a lot more damage with it.
Similarly, there should always be a few healing items in your inventory in case you find yourself in an unexpected fight, but make sure you are constantly stocked up on cloth and alcohol. That way, if you’re ever in a pinch, you can quickly seek cover, craft a bandage, and heal yourself.
Quests have different methods and outcomes
One of the things I personally really love about Atomfall is that many of the quests have different ways of being handled, and this is something you should bear in mind. Just because one lead you have found says that an item can be found in a specific area does not mean that item cannot be found elsewhere.
Take Atomic Batteries, for example, an item you’ll need to find throughout Atomfall. You only need five of these to actually complete the game, but there is an abundance more than that to find, so no player needs to collect all five Atomic Batteries the same way.
Similarly, you might find a note pointing you in the direction of the mysterious Signal Redirector item, and where this note leads you is not the only way to get your hands on the item. Keep this in mind, because if you’re struggling with one lead, there’s likely another you’ll find by exploring.
