A San Mateo Superior Court judge ruled that Krafton provided sufficient evidence that NetEase violated previously agreed terms of the contract, but Krafton failed to justify its $65 million demand for damages.
The court awarded Krafton an undisclosed amount of "liquidated damages" and was denied injunctive relief.
This site noticed that the copyright dispute began in April 2018. Krafton sued NetEase, accusing its two battle royale games "Knives Out" and "Survival Rules" of copyright infringement.
Krafton believes that the overall appearance, feel and audio-visual style of the two games very much imitate the realistic style of "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds", and also said that NetEase released these two free games to get ahead of "PUBG Mobile".
The two companies reached a nondisclosure agreement in March 2019, but Krafton later accused NetEase of violating multiple terms of the settlement, such as failing to change certain elements of the game, including building and map layouts and in-game items .
