This site’s news on July 15th. According to the official news of China Southern Power Grid’s “Southern Grid 50Hz” on July 14th, high temperatures have continued in the southern region in recent days. The Central Meteorological Observatory continued to issue high temperature yellow warnings at 08:00 on July 14th. Eastern Guangxi and Guangdong Some places have high temperatures above 35°C. Affected by multiple factors such as high temperatures and a declining economy, at around 17:00 on July 10, the highest power load in the southern region reached 239 million kilowatts, setting a record high for the first time this year. Since the beginning of this year, the electricity load of more than 20 cities in the five provinces and regions of Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou and Hainan served by China Southern Power Grid has reached a record high. Following Guangzhou and Shenzhen, Dongguan has become the third city in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area with a load exceeding 20 million kilowatts.
Image source Pexels learned from the official China Southern Power Grid that in the China Southern Power Grid’s power supply service area, the power load is significantly driven by high temperatures. Among them, after the temperature in Guangdong exceeds 32°C, the load will be driven by 3.8 million kilowatts for every 1°C increase in temperature. Since July 3, more than 100 high temperature warning signals have been in effect in Guangdong, driving the electricity load to continue to soar. Electricity loads in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Jiangmen, Dongguan, Zhaoqing, Huizhou, Yunfu, Zhanjiang, Shanwei and other cities in Guangdong have broken historical records.
According to reports, China Southern Power Grid uses an AI load forecasting system to accurately capture load peak moments based on the quantitative relationship between factors such as temperature and electricity load. Xiao Liang, a technical expert at China Southern Power Grid’s Power Dispatching Control Center, believes that “the use of network-wide integrated AI load forecasting technology not only solves the major production problems that traditional extensive manual experience forecasting can easily lead to a tight balance between supply and demand, but also can accurately identify factors such as temperature. Quantitatively related to the electricity load, AI can help ensure electricity supply with significant benefits." Currently, the average accuracy of AI load forecasting in the five southern provinces is above 98.5%.
