Google promises to Japan Fair Trade Commission: No restrictions on providing advertising technology to Yahoo Japan

According to news from this site on April 23, Japan’s Fair Trade Commission (FTC) issued an announcement yesterday, approving Google’s commitment to not restrict the provision of advertising technology to Yahoo Japan. According to the investigation results of Japan's FTC, Google's Japanese subsidiary modified the service agreement in November 2014, restricting the payment to Yahoo for more than seven years from September 2015 to October 2022. Japan provides "keyword search positioning" advertising technology.

This means that Google is suspected of undermining fair competition in the online advertising market and violating the provisions of Japan's Antitrust Law regarding unfair trading practices such as private monopoly, refusal to trade, and interference with competitors' transactions.

Google has confirmed with Japan’s FTC to ensure that it will no longer engage in the above-mentioned unfair trading practices and will not restrict the provision of related technologies to Yahoo Japan. An implementation report should be submitted to the Japanese FTC within the next three years, otherwise the Japanese FTC will consider restarting the investigation.
