The team announced the news on the X platform and said they have initiated work to resolve the issue. They also informed users that they can expect the release of the second generation of Polygon’s zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM) mainnet in the coming weeks.
Technical glitches plague Polygon zkEVM mainnet
On March 23, Polygon announced that its ZK Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM) failed due to a blockchain sequencer issue. According to its tweet, this technical glitch affected Polygon zkEVM, which is the only rollup solution.
Despite this, some components of the Polygon ecosystem, such as the Proof-of-Stake (PoS) network and chains deployed via the Polygon Chain Deployment Kit (CDK), have not been negatively affected in any way. The main function of the affected blockchain sequencer is to collate and group transactions into batches, which are then sent to the zkEVM smart contract on the Ethereum mainnet.
This unexpected outage disrupted normal operations and raised concerns within the broader crypto community. Users who rely on the stability of the platform are now concerned about the impact these technical issues may have on their reputations and the stability of the entire ecosystem.
Despite the technical glitch, Polygon assured followers on its social media that it was working hard to resolve the issue and promised to release a comprehensive "post-mortem" statement. The blockchain company reminded that the second generation of zkEVM will be launched in the coming weeks, demonstrating their commitment to rapid response to technical issues and continuous improvement.
