如何使用 Go 将背景图像添加到 X11/Wayland 的多个屏幕?

php Xiaobian Banana will introduce you how to use Go language to add background images to multiple screens of X11/Wayland. In a multi-screen environment, setting a different background image for each screen can improve the user experience. This article will explain in detail how to use X11 and Wayland related libraries to implement this function in the Go language. Whether you are using X11 or Wayland, this article will provide you with applicable solutions. Following the steps in this article, you will easily master the techniques of how to add a background image in a multi-screen environment. Let’s explore together!

Question content

I made a custom wallpaper setter in Go for a window manager. Currently I use the github.com/xyproto/wallutils project, which in turn depends on feh.

For one screen I can use its dimensions to create an image of the exact size and everything works fine, but if there are multiple screens of different sizes connected to the computer this method doesn't work.

For the exact image, I used feh's "fill" option, which only works on one of the monitors.

What I want to do is create the correct sized images for each screen and send them as background images to the corresponding screen in X11 or Wayland. How can I achieve this in Go?

Solution

Requirements:

  • Send different wallpapers to different monitors
  • Call from go
  • Use feh
  • below

muro and wallutils

wallutils Specifies the wm interface, which provides the setwallpaper method, etc. There are implementations of this interface for many different window managers.

go package muro in turn uses wallutils. Based on the withanywindowmanager flag, it will use wallutils' setwallpapercustom method, which selects a specific setwallpaper implementation based on the detected window manager, or calls ## directly #feh Variant of setwallpaper.

wallutils and feh

The exact display mode depends on how it is called, but

setwallpaper in wallutils feh.go will basically call feh in your case, like this:

feh --bg-fill <image file name>

Two notes:

    here
  • feh Set the wallpaper on all screens to the exact same image
  • Therefore there is no direct support for having different images
Additionally, the wallutils readme clearly states:

Set wallpaper for each monitor

Setting wallpapers per monitor is not yet supported. Currently, all monitors have wallpapers set.

See

https://github.com/xyproto/wallutils#Setting the wallpaper for each display

Possible solutions

Since you can determine the display and resolution, we focus on using

feh to send predefined images as background images to the appropriate screens in the correct order.

feh itself supports setting different wallpapers for each display. You just call feh with different images with different resolutions. The order is guaranteed to be the same as that determined by calling xrandr --listmonitors.

With the order determined and taken as a given, the simplest go program would look like this (see also wallutil's utility functions

Run):

package main

import (
    "os/exec"
)

func main() {
    args := []string{"--bg-fill", "1.png", "2.png"}
    cmd := exec.Command("feh", args...)
    if _, err := cmd.CombinedOutput(); err != nil {
        panic(err)
    }
}

(Tested using

fluxbox window manager)

This is the simplest case if

feh is used with an appropriate window manager and there are two prepared images in the go directory. Of course, you can also programmatically determine the screen and dynamically adjust the feh call.

Since

feh does not work in all environments, wallutils provides wm for many window manager environments (cinnamon, deepin, gnome, mate, pekwm, plasma, sway, weston, xfce4) Specific implementation of the interface. This is of course very cool. However, if you want to create an mr for wallutils, you'll probably have to do it in all variants, at least the ones that support it.
