According to news from this site on December 17, Signify, the company behind the Philips Hue smart lighting brand, announced that it will reorganize its business amid "continued market volatility and uncertainty" to create a "new customer-centric architecture" ”, and plans to save approximately US$218 million (note on this site: currently approximately RMB 1.552 billion) in costs per year.

Signify announced the news on its website earlier this month. This week, the company confirmed to The Verge that "layoffs will be part of this restructuring". Signify CEO Eric Rondolat said, "The changes have already begun and are expected to be completed in the first half of 2024."

As part of a broader restructuring, Signify announced that it will divide its business into four distinct divisions:

  • Professional business: It will provide LED lights, lamps, interconnected lighting systems and services to customers in professional fields.

  • Consumer business: will provide LED lights, lamps and connected products to customers in the consumer field, including Philips’ Hue and WiZ, etc.

  • OEM business: We will provide lighting components to the industry

  • Traditional business: including the provision of special lighting, digital projection, traditional lamps and lamp electronics

While the four-category structure is still relatively broad, Signify's press release seems to suggest that it will primarily focus on consumer businesses, including Philips Hue and WiZ

The company noted in a statement: "Given With the new customer-centric structure, we will further right-size the central organization and reduce costs to support the company's performance amid continued market volatility and uncertainty. These changes have begun in the fourth quarter of 2023 and will be implemented in 2024 Implementation, most of which will be completed in the second quarter, is expected to save more than 200 million euros per year."

Philips Hue is one of the longest-term supporters of Apple's HomeKit platform. The company has also made it clear that it plans to be a strong supporter of the Matter smart home standard going forward.
