On October 17, market research agency Counterpoint Research released the latest global smartphone market report. The report shows that the global smartphone market experienced a cooling down in the third quarter of this year, with overall sales falling by 8% compared with the same period last year. Despite a 2% quarter-on-quarter increase, this has been the ninth consecutive quarter of decline, making it the worst quarter in the past decade
According to the brand ranking, the top five are Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, OPPO and vivo, their market shares are 20%, 16%, 12%, 8% and 8% respectively. What is worrying is that the market share of these five major brands has declined year-on-year, with Xiaomi and OPPO declining as much as 15%, while Apple is the only brand whose market share has not declined
Interestingly, Counterpoint Research also pointed out that in the third quarter, the market share of brands such as Honor, Huawei and Transsion increased, becoming one of the only brands to achieve year-on-year growth. This phenomenon may be because emerging markets are the first to recover, and in addition to the top five brands, other brands are also growing, indicating that the global smartphone market is undergoing dynamic changes, bringing new opportunities
Counterpoint Research It is predicted that due to the delayed effect of iPhone release time, that is, demand will be transferred in the next quarter, and the strong growth momentum of the smartphone market after September, the market will end the continuous year-on-year decline in the fourth quarter of this year. This may bring a glimmer of hope to the global smartphone market
