IT Home News on September 13, Sony Semiconductor Solutions (SSS) recently announced the development of a new module that can convert electromagnetic noise into energy to power Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
IT Home Note: This compact module measures 7*7 mm and has a thickness of 1.2 mm. It can continuously power IoT devices even when electromagnetic radiation sources are not actively used. This technology is still in the development stage, but broad application prospects can be foreseen.
Sony says the module can extract energy from electromagnetic noise "floating in the air around us." These noises come from lighting fixtures, cars, and even household and industrial appliances such as elevators.
This technology is based on the metal parts of IoT devices acting as antennas, intercepting electromagnetic waves in the range of a few Hz to 100 MHz, and then converting the captured waves into current through a special rectifier circuit, which can power IoT devices.
