How to create a network share via Samba on Linux

Samba is an SMB/CIFS network protocol used to provide file and print services to Microsoft clients. Samba can also be used as part of an Active Directory domain. Samba uses TCP/IP protocol for communication.

$ useradd marc
$ passwd marc

Step 3: Configure the shared directory

Add the following content to the Samba configuration file /etc/samba/smb.conf at the bottom.

$ systemctl restart smbd.service

To test your setup , you need to access the shared location from your Windows system. Open the run window on Windows operating system and type below.

Change IP using samba server IP address. If prompted for authentication. Authorize the usage account created in step 2.
