AMD confirms Ryzen 9000 prices will start at $279 for Ryzen 5 9600X

AMD postponed the launch of its Zen 5-based Ryzen 9000 series desktop processors from July 31 to August. One rumour speculates it was due to a typo on the packaging, while others say the chips needed some more last-minute tuning. The company was tight-lipped about their prices and has finally revealed them today.

As predicted earlier, you will be able to buy the AMD Ryzen 5 9500X and Ryzen 8 9700X on August 8. The Ryzen 9 9900X and Ryzen 9 9950X can be purchased on August 15. Check with your local retailers for more information. While the $150 price gap between the Ryzen 9 SKUs might seem a bit high, it may be worth it given the Ryzen 9 9950X's added core count and TDP. These prices effectively debunk an earlier leak which said the Ryzen 9000 series would start at $500. Pre-launch samples of the Ryzen 9 9950X, Ryzen 9 9900X, Ryzen 9 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X have all exhibited a decent performance uplift over their Zen 4 counterparts. Whether or not they'll be take on Intel's Arrow Lake desktop chips remain to be seen.
