Assassin's Creed Shadows finally takes players to Japan, a setting that's been long-requested since the very start of the series. In this iteration, we follow Naoe and Yasuke, as their fates intertwine and send them off on a blood-soaked journey of revenge. Of course, Assassin's Creed Shadows is the latest in the modern RPG version of the series, and as such it focuses on open-world exploration. In many ways, the open world exhibited here is the best Ubisoft has ever put together, managing to look truly impressive in action.

Whether you want to play it sneaky with Naoe, or bust through doors with Yasuke, there's combat here that caters to a wide variety of play styles. Many of the series' hallmarks, like Synchronization points, have been retooled, while others, like social stealth and Leaps of Faith are left largely untouched. This'll no doubt please longtime fans, while giving new ones a great place to jump in. Jumping between dual protagonists, Assassin's Creed Shadows' story is truly epic, backed up by some excellent side missions and quests.

Lost Records: Bloom & Rage is a new IP that explores the uncanny, messy nature of humanity from a stylized and period-specific perspective. So far, it’s an adventure dripping in tactile nostalgia and pithy mystery that evolves the ethos of the games that came before it. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle tells an epic globe-trotting tale that ends up as a shining example of the long-running franchise. In fact, it's the best Indiana Jones story since Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, thanks largely to an excellent performance from Troy Baker. There's a dastardly villain, some familiar side characters, and plenty of twists and turns, all complimented by some truly fun, whip-cracking action.

Don't go in expecting Indiana Jones and the Great Circle to be an action-heavy FPS affair, as it shares much more with immersive sims like Thief and Dishonored. It's an Indiana Jones simulator, allowing you to experience the world as Indy, as you solve puzzles, punch Nazis, and document the historical wonders that you find along the way.

At the beginning of Survivor, we find the team somewhat scattered, as Cal sets off on a mission to rekindle the Jedi order, and save other Force-sensitive individuals. Along the way, you'll meet some familiar faces, and some wonderful new ones, hopping from planet to planet while evading the Empire.

What Star Wars Jedi: Survivor excels at is telling a much larger story when compared to its predecessor. There's more characters, way more twists and turns, and some great reveals that tie into the wider Star Wars universe. Pair this with excellent lightsaber combat and even a semi-open world planet and you've got a very good time indeed.

God of War Ragnarok takes what made its predecessor so epic, and dials it up to eleven. The combat has been refined, adding in shield-focused abilities and skills, and traversal has been improved thanks to a bunch of genuinely fun new tools. Kratos and Atreus face down Odin himself in this gargantuan sequel, and must recruit the help of some uneasy allies to get the job done.

There's a great ensemble cast in God of War Ragnarok that helps elevate the story above others in the genre. There's a talking squirrel, more fun from everyone's dismembered head, and plenty of father-son anguish from Kratos and Atreus. The story wraps up Kratos' Norse story rather well, while leaving things open for more adventures later down the line. If you enjoyed the first game, this one is an absolute must play.
