


Apple pursues non-porous design, iPhone 16 series may be equipped with new capacitive buttons
According to news on April 23, there are rumors that ASE Semiconductor has successfully obtained an important order from Apple to provide capacitive button system-in-package (SiP) modules for the upcoming iPhone 16 series.
This new button is expected to replace the traditional physical volume button and power button. Its design concept is similar to the pressure-sensitive Home button of iPhone 7, 8, SE2 and other models. The introduction of this kind of capacitive button marks Apple's continuous pursuit of non-porous design of equipment, and strives to gradually eliminate traditional openings such as interfaces and buttons.
According to the editor’s understanding, in order to achieve more realistic physical button feedback, the new iPhone will have a Taptic Engine motor inside it. This technology can simulate the touch of physical keys. When users operate the "solid keys", they feel as if they are pressing real physical keys.
Currently, Apple is committed to making the device completely non-porous, and the disappearance of buttons seems to be faster than the disappearance of interfaces. If the iPhone 16 Pro finally adopts capacitive operation buttons and is mass-produced, based on market feedback, we may expect to see the complete disappearance of physical buttons on the iPhone 17 Pro.
