Counterpoint: Samsung mobile phone market share in South Korea is 73%, Apple 25%
According to the latest data from market research firm Counterpoint Research, domestic smartphone sales in South Korea will be approximately 14 million units in 2023, a decrease of 8% from last year. This decline was mainly due to the economic recession leading to longer smartphone replacement cycles.
This site noticed that although Samsung Electronics is still the leader of the Korean smartphone market, Apple's market share is gradually increasing.
According to data, Samsung Electronics’ market share in South Korea will be 73% in 2023. However, due to rising material prices and sluggish overall sales, coupled with Samsung Electronics cleaning up some mid- and low-end production lines, its market share decreased by about 2% from the previous year.
Samsung’s flagship smartphones Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 launched last year have been a huge success, analysts said. Among them, pre-orders for the Galaxy S23 series reached 1.09 million units, while pre-orders for Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 also reached 1.02 million units each. The sales performance of this series of products is very good.

Except Samsung, Apple’s market share in South Korea reached 25%, a year-on-year increase of 3%. These two companies have an almost complete monopoly on the Korean mobile phone market, while all other manufacturers only account for 2% of the market share. It is worth mentioning that from 2020 to 2022, Apple’s share in South Korea will steadily increase by 1 percentage point every year, and last year’s growth rate was even greater.
