According to the latest supply chain report, Apple is taking a conservative approach to the upcoming first batch of iPad Pro equipped with OLED screens and has cut orders by 30%.
This adjustment has a significant impact on suppliers such as LG Display, TSMC, Foxconn and Novatek Microelectronics. In the original plan, Apple expected to order 10 million units, but the latest adjusted order quantity is only between 7 and 8 million units. Among them, LG Display has been particularly severely affected. Its order volume has been significantly reduced from the original 6 million to 3 million, almost halved. In contrast, Samsung's order volume is relatively stable, remaining at 4 million units.
It is understood that the new iPad Pro will be available in 11-inch and 13-inch sizes. This is also the first time that the iPad series uses OLED displays. OLED technology has obvious advantages over LCD technology in terms of brightness, contrast and power consumption. Apple has widely used OLED displays in many iPhone and Apple Watch products.
According to industry analysis, Apple has reduced its initial order volume for iPad OLED panels. The move is likely due to a cautious assessment of the market and conservative expectations of initial demand. Although the price of the new iPad Pro has not yet been announced, it is expected to be higher than the existing LCD version of the iPad.
According to sources, the OLED panel equipped with the new iPad uses double-layer series structure technology, which has significantly improved brightness and lifespan compared to the single-layer OLED structure. Although Samsung encountered some specification inconsistencies in the early mass production stage, it has now stated that it can complete mass production tasks as planned.
Regarding the supply of iPad Pro panels, price negotiations between LG Display and Apple are still ongoing, and specific details have not yet been announced. However, the industry generally expects the panel to be 4 to 5 times more expensive than panels used in smartphones. Calculated at US$200 per panel, if 5 million units are supplied, it will bring about a US$1 billion sales increase to relevant suppliers.
