According to previous reports on this site, the factory established by TSMC in Japan mainly produces products with 12/16 nanometer and 22/28 nanometer processes, and currently employs 800 employees locally. The factory has started installing relevant equipment this month and is expected to achieve mass production by the end of 2024 as planned.

The TSMC Kumamoto factory has received strong support from the Japanese government, Sony Semiconductor Solutions, Denso and other partners. Total capital expenditures for the plant are US$86 billion, and Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry approved 476 billion yen (approximately US$3.5 billion) in subsidies in June, accounting for about 40% of Japan's total subsidies
