On September 1, near the first base iron tower of the 1,000 kV Taiwu II Line, Zhang Qi, a transmission and transportation inspector of State Grid Jiangsu Ultra-High Voltage Company, used a drone to carry out X-ray non-destructive inspection of power transmission equipment. This operation is an important part of the State Grid Jiangsu Ultra High Voltage Company's use of drones to replace manual power transmission maintenance.
In recent years, State Grid Jiangsu Ultra High Voltage Co., Ltd. has focused on the key tasks of "strengthening the grid, optimizing equipment, increasing capabilities, and building a strong smart grid", and has maturely applied drones to transmission line operation and maintenance work, and carried out pole and tower operations on a regular basis. Fine inspection, infrared temperature measurement, three-dimensional laser point cloud collection, etc. Through the "Party Building to Improve Quality and Efficiency" project, the company vigorously explores the application of drones in power outage maintenance, live operations, etc., and establishes 10 categories of drones, including X-ray inspection, electrical inspection, installation and disassembly of ground wires, and anti-fall protection device installation. Use drone replacement and auxiliary operation scenarios to build a power transmission and inspection drone operation model of "scenario diversification, operation standardization, and application scale" to reduce operation risks and improve efficiency.
Security risks are gradually reduced
During the maintenance of transmission lines, climbing operations are very common, which is accompanied by the risk of falling from high heights. How to reduce or even eliminate the risk of high falls without affecting the quality and efficiency of maintenance is the direction of transformation of line maintenance technology.
On April 20, State Grid Jiangsu Ultra High Voltage Company took advantage of the power outage maintenance opportunity of the 1,000 kV Xutai II Line to conduct a hydrophobic test of composite insulators using drones.
In the past, in order to test the hydrophobicity of composite insulators, maintenance personnel had to first climb the tower, then climb up the ladder to the insulator hanging point, spray the upper, middle and lower ends of the insulator with a hand-held watering can, and then take photos one by one, and evaluate through the photos Whether the hydrophobicity of the insulator is good or not, there is a high risk of falling during the entire process.
To do this, the company is applying drone innovation to hydrophobicity detection. During the day's operation, one drone carried a water spray device and flew near the insulator to spray water mist. Another drone carried a 20x high-definition lens to capture the adhesion of water droplets on the surface of the insulator for subsequent analysis. Maintenance personnel can complete the inspection by operating the two machines on the ground and do not need to climb the tower.
In addition, the company uses regular, full-coverage drone inspections to replace manual tower wiring inspections during maintenance. “In the first half of this year, when we had power outages and maintenance on 12 ultra-high voltage lines including the ±800 kV Jinsu Line and the ±800 kV Xitai Line, we canceled all line tower inspections, completely avoiding safety risks caused by climbing. "Guo Rong, deputy director of the Equipment Department of State Grid Jiangsu Ultra High Voltage Company, introduced.
During this year’s spring inspection, the company extensively used drones to replace manual labor to carry out drone hydrophobicity testing, tower climbing inspections and other operations, achieving unmanned tower climbing, reducing the number of people climbing operations by more than 200 times, and reducing such operations to The risk of falling from height is reduced to zero.
Operation efficiency is significantly improved
"The crack in the compression pipe of the 1000 kV Taiwu II tower tower is defective. If the conventional detection method is followed, it is necessary to manually climb the tower to open the compression pipe after the line is powered off to check its internal conditions. When the line is powered off, you need to apply for temporary shutdown and dispatch permission. , switching operation and other processes, it takes at least 6 hours. Manual tower climbing starts from the preparation work such as power inspection and grounding wire, and it takes another 2 hours. The last time we used a drone equipped with X-ray flaw detection equipment for inspection, The whole process only takes 30 minutes, which is 90% more efficient than conventional testing," Zhang Qi said.
X-rays can penetrate materials that cannot be penetrated by visible light, and can reflect internal cracks, pores and other minor defects without dismantling or damaging power transmission equipment. It is reported that when the company carries X-ray flaw detection equipment on a drone for inspection, the operator first fixes the X-ray flaw detection equipment on the drone, and then the remote-controlled flaw detection equipment emits X-rays after the drone flies to a designated location and hovers. X-rays penetrate the device under test and display the internal image of the device on the imaging board. At the same time, the image is transmitted to the ground display screen in real time for subsequent analysis and identification by experts.
During this year’s spring inspection, State Grid Jiangsu Ultra High Voltage Company used drones to replace manual work on towers such as power inspection, hanging ground wires, and setting up anti-fall protection measures. Compared with traditional maintenance methods, manual work was omitted. In processes such as tower climbing and tool assembly and disassembly, the average operating efficiency is increased by more than 70%.
In addition, the company has adjusted traditional maintenance projects such as X-ray inspection of metal tools and color-coded paint painting from the power outage period to the live period. Drones are used instead of manual work, which does not occupy the power outage time and further improves the efficiency of power outage maintenance. Operation efficiency improves line equipment availability. The above-mentioned maintenance projects are no longer limited to the power outage maintenance period. They can be inspected throughout the daily operation and maintenance process to promote the optimization and upgrading of the operation and inspection strategy. Xia Xue
