First, we define a map type cache object to store the user's chat history. Every time a user sends a message, the server will first check whether the user's chat record is already in the cache. In this way, the number of database operations is reduced and the performance of the program is improved.

Secondly, in order to prevent the cache object from occupying too much memory and causing the server to crash, we set a default cache time (for example, 30 minutes) and set an expiration time in the cache object. When the cache time expires , the program will automatically delete expired chat records from the cache to avoid server crashes caused by too large cache objects.

Finally, we use a lock mechanism in the read and write operations of the cache object to ensure that there will be no data consistency problems during concurrent access. When multiple users update the same chat record at the same time, the lock mechanism can ensure data consistency and stability.

By using caching technology, we have optimized the message query process in the IRC server, thus improving the performance and stability of the program. Caching technology can also be applied to other systems, such as image caching, file caching, etc., which can effectively improve program performance.
