This open letter comes from the American non-profit organization, Center for AI Safety. The full text of the letter is only 22 words, and the entire content is:
Mitigating the extinction risk posed by artificial intelligence should become a global priority alongside other society-scale risks such as epidemics and nuclear war.
Currently, more than 350 people in the AI field have signed this statement, including Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google DeepMind, and Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, who won the 2018 Turing Award and are all known as the "Big Three of AI" "Geoffrey Hinton and Youshua Bengio.
Also signing the open letter were two Chinese scientists: Zeng Yi, director of the Artificial Intelligence Ethics and Governance Research Center of the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Zhan Xianyuan, assistant researcher at Tsinghua Intelligent Industry Research Institute (AIR).
In March of this year, Musk and others issued an open letter, clearly requesting that "laboratories that are training AI systems more powerful than GPT-4 immediately suspend training for at least 6 months." Bengio was also among the signatories. , Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and others.
Although this latest open letter does not make clear demands like the previous letter, it clearly places AI risks at the same priority as epidemics and nuclear wars.
