The company recently announced a centralized procurement announcement for 5G wireless network main equipment from 2023 to 2024. The market interpreted this as saying that it will significantly reduce the scale of bidding for 5G base stations. China Mobile responded and stated that this interpretation was wrong and that they would continue to increase investment in 5G networks.
According to the editor’s understanding, data released by China Mobile shows that this centralized procurement involves self-built 5G 2.6GHz/4.9GHz base station equipment and co-construction and shared 5G 700MHz base station equipment adopts single source method. Among them, the scale of 5G 2.6GHz/4.9GHz base station equipment is 251,700 stations. The 700MHz base station equipment is planned to be expanded by approximately 161,000 stations in this phase.
Dong Xin said that China Mobile has successfully built more than 1.55 million 5G base stations, contributing to the construction of new information infrastructure. According to preliminary estimates, if the results of this round of centralized procurement are realized, China Mobile's number of 5G base stations will reach nearly 2.05 million. This measure will further promote the development and popularization of 5G networks and provide users with a more stable and faster network experience.
In this centralized procurement, China Mobile designated Shanghai Nokia Bell Co., Ltd., Ericsson (China) Communications Co., Ltd., Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., and ZTE Communications Co., Ltd. and Datang Mobile Communications Equipment Co., Ltd. as suppliers of the two major targets. These suppliers will provide necessary 5G base station equipment to China Mobile to support the construction and operation of its 5G network.
