As AR/VR product development continues, Apple adds a pair of mixed reality headset patents to its portfolio
While rumors surrounding Apple Glasses continue to swirl, it appears we're getting closer to seeing an augmented reality/virtual reality (AR/VR) headset from the tech giant. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted Apple two patents for mixed reality (MR) headsets.

Typically, headgear-like sunglasses or ski goggles use protective coatings to create a one-way mirror effect, which is mentioned in the patent. This patent will be used for HMDs or other devices with one-way mirrors. A layer of material that forms an infrared transparent one-way mirror needs to be supported by a headset or other support structure. "
Apple apparently insists that its EarPods will contain multiple optical components. This could include a visible light camera, an infrared light emitting device, and an infrared light sensor.
While the earphones are designed to allow users view to the outside world, but the one-way mirror finish on the surface of the earphones is designed to hide various cameras, gaze tracking systems, and more from public view.
Another Apple patent involves an HMD charging system .This will include a head-mounted display with a display unit, a power storage device and a receiving coil. The receiving coil can be used to charge the headphones.
