"Apple puts last MacBook Pro with CD drive on retro product list"

Apple will add the mid-2012 13-inch MacBook Pro to its legacy lineup on January 31st.

Released in June 2012, the 13-inch MacBook Pro was the last Mac sold by Apple with a built-in CD/DVD drive. As of October 2016, it was still sold as a lower-priced option alongside the slimmer 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display.

Apple believes that more than five years have passed since it stopped selling the device. In most areas, older products used to be ineligible for repair, but Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers now offer repairs for older products for up to seven years, depending on parts availability.

On the software side, Apple dropped support for the mid-2012 model 13-inch MacBook Pro and macOS Big Sur in 2020.
