iPhone 14 What to Expect

Apple will make some changes to how it usually differentiates its high-end models. This year, the differences between the Pro and regular iPhone 14 variants will be even more pronounced — if the rumors are true.

Processor

关于即将推出的 iPhone 14 系列的所有信息

Apple typically launches a new A chip with its annual high-end iPhone release. Typically, all iPhone models belonging to a certain series are powered by the same SoC. However, things may be different this year. We expect the iPhone 14 Pro models to include the new A16 Bionic chip. Regular iPhone 14 models, on the other hand, will likely settle for the iPhone 13's A15 Bionic. Whether it is the same A15 Bionic chip or a new variant of it remains unknown. The reasons behind this could be a chip shortage, Apple's decision to redefine what a Pro iPhone is, or a combination of both.

Rear Camera

The 12MP wide (main) rear camera has been available on high-end iPhones for some time now. This 12MP might finally get a significant boost this year. The catch, though, is that it might be limited to the iPhone 14 Pro models. If the rumors are in fact accurate, the Pro variant of the upcoming lineup will include a 48MP wide-angle camera. Regular iPhone 14 models will reportedly stick with 12MP.

Model Naming/Sizing

Since the launch of the iPhone 12 series, Apple has stuck to this arrangement on its higher-end versions:

  • 5.4-inch iPhone Mini
  • 6.1-inch iPhone
  • 6.1-inch iPhone Pro
  • 6.7-inch iPhone Pro Max

According to reports, this year’s switch to:

  • 6.1-inch iPhone 14
  • 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max
  • 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro
  • 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max

By launching a regular Max iPhone, Apple can target big-screen fans who aren't necessarily willing to pay for the top-end Pro Max model. However, by ditching the Mini, microdisplay fans will be disappointed this fall.

Notch

关于即将推出的 iPhone 14 系列的所有信息

The iPhone 13 Pro’s notch (left) is smaller than the iPhone 12 Pro’s notch.

The first iPhone notch appeared in 2017 - when Apple launched the iconic iPhone X. Not much has changed with this screen invader since then. Yes, the company did shrink it recently, but it's barely noticeable. For those of you who despise notches, we have some good news and bad news in this department. This year, the tech juggernaut will likely move toward punch-hole (for cameras) and pill (for sensors) designs. The bad news is that it's likely to be exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro. The regular model is likely to have the same notch as the iPhone 13 series.
