Microsoft confirms new Outlook app for Windows 11, Windows 10

Microsoft has been working on delivering a new Outlook experience for Windows for over a year, and an allegedly leaked version of the email client recently surfaced online, giving many of us our hands on it.

The new Outlook app is part of the highly anticipated "Project Monarch," also known as "One Outlook." This is big news for Windows 11 and Windows 10 users as it is expected to replace all existing Outlook clients on desktop operating systems and become the default mail application.

In a highly unusual move, Microsoft has confirmed that the leaked Outlook app is legitimate, but users should avoid it. Earlier this week, Microsoft quietly released an update to its Office 365 dashboard confirming that One Outlook is real, but that IT pros should block users from accessing the new email app.

Microsoft says it is aware of a leaked application that gave some users (with work or school accounts) access to early versions of the new Outlook for Windows. Microsoft didn't explain anything about One Outlook, but said it would share news about the next-generation Outlook experience in the coming weeks.

However, according to Microsoft, users should avoid using the earlier version of Text as it currently lacks some features and enhancements.

"These enhancements will be made available to our customers in the Beta channel at a later date. We encourage our customers to wait for the beta release," Microsoft said in a notice posted earlier this year.

Microsoft also confirmed that it will soon release a beta version to participants in the Office Insider program. Since the app isn't currently available to business users, Microsoft wants IT administrators to temporarily block access and only allow access once the app officially enters the beta channel.

"When beta versions become available, you will need to use the same instructions to unblock them," the company said.
