Microsoft has begun rolling out the Tabbed version of Notepad to Windows 11 Dev Channel Insiders today. The feature was inadvertently leaked by a company employee in December. In a new blog post announcing the new feature, the company explains in detail how the new tabbed notepad will work:
Hello Windows Insiders, Today we’re starting to introduce tabs to the Dev Channel The Notepad (version 11.2212.33.0) update for Windows 11 is rolling out to Windows Insiders.
With this update, we're introducing support for multiple tabs - a feature most requested by the community - you'll be able to create, manage and organize multiple files in a single Notepad window! You can also continue working on files across multiple windows by dragging tabs out into their own windows, and new app settings let you customize whether files open in new tabs or new windows by default Open in .
