VPX is a new generation of high-speed serial bus standard proposed by VITA (VME International Trade Association, VME International Trade Association) in 2007 based on its VME bus.                                                                                                                                                             (Recommended study: phpstorm)

The basic specifications, mechanical structure and bus signals of the VPX bus are defined in the ANSI/VITA46 series of technical specifications.

VPX is a new generation bus standard based on high-speed serial bus. The original purpose of this standard is to protect the users of VME bus and inherit and continue VME bus.

The motivations for proposing VPX mainly include the following aspects:

1) For high-density and high-performance computing. On the one hand the system can be used in areas where size and weight are constrained, on the other hand the system should have the capability to implement complex algorithms and connect multiple high-speed data sources.

2) Expand bandwidth. Using a serial interconnect architecture can significantly reduce the number of pins while significantly increasing bandwidth.

The bandwidth of the VME bus is 40~60MB. By increasing the number of serial connections, the total VPX bandwidth can reach 100GB/s. Serial interconnect technologies such as RapidlO and 10GbE use XAUI electrical specifications, and their operating speed is 3.125Gb/s.

The data transmission speeds of some other serial communication technologies are also of the same order, such as PCI Express at 2.5Gb/s and Fiber Channel at 4Gb/s, both of which exceed the 1Gb/s transmission of the VME64X system DIN connector. Rate limit.

3) Enhanced power supply design. In the VME64X specification, the power consumption of the backplane is limited to 35W. Considering the rapid development of microprocessors and the continuous maturity of multi-core and multi-processor technology, this power consumption limitation has become a bottleneck. The VPX specification solves this problem by increasing the power supply of the backplane and a more complete cooling system (conduction, liquid cooling).

4) Resistant to harsh environments and can maintain commercial stock. The VITA46 series of protocols regulates the VPX bus, and VPX refers to the VITA46 series of protocols.

This series of protocols consists of the VITA 46.0 basic specification and various sub-protocols involving signal mapping such as VMEbus and Serial Rapidl0.

The VPX bus was born from the VME bus. It is a universal computer bus that combines the electrical specifications of Motorola's Versa bus and the Eurocard mechanical packaging standard. It is an open architecture that supports and is independent of Multiprocessor computer systems.
