Copy image

Copy image is suitable for deploying applications across regions. You can run the same image environment in ECS instances in different regions. You can copy a custom image in a certain region to any other Alibaba Cloud region, but the task completion time depends on the network transmission speed and the number of queued concurrent tasks.

Notes

When copying an image, a corresponding snapshot will be generated in the target region at the same time, and then a custom image will be generated based on the snapshot in the target region. . Therefore, please pay attention to the possible charges:

Data transmission traffic charges between different regions. Currently, there is no charge for this part of the traffic. The specific charging time is subject to Alibaba Cloud's announcement.

The copied snapshot will occupy the snapshot capacity.

Starting from March 28, 2017, ECS snapshots have been officially commercialized and included in billing services. For billing details, please refer to Snapshot Billing. For more information about snapshot charges, please refer to the Snapshot Commercialization FAQ.

After copying the image, you will get a custom image with the same configuration in another region. However, the relevant role authorization and service authorization information will be lost, and the instance customization data that was originally set will not be included.

Operation steps

The steps to copy the image on the ECS management console are as follows:

Log in to the ECS management console.

Select a region.

In the left navigation bar, select Snapshots & Mirroring > Mirroring.

Select the image that needs to be copied. The image type must be a custom image. In the operation column, click Copy Image.

Note

If the custom image you want to copy is larger than 200 GiB, you need to submit a work order for processing. When you click Copy Image, you will be directed to submit a ticket.

In the Copy Image dialog box, you can see the ID of the selected custom image. You need to complete the following settings:

Select the target region.

Fill in the custom image name and custom image description displayed in the target region.

Click OK.

Switch to the target region and check the copy progress of the custom image. When the progress is displayed as 100%, the task is completed.

Note

If the progress is not 100% and the status is Creating, you can click to cancel copying at any time. After canceling the task, the custom image will no longer be displayed in the image list of the target region.
