PHP template engine is widely used to separate templates and layouts.

Using the PHP template engine can make website maintenance and updates easier, create a better development environment, and make it easier to combine development and design work.

It definitely has some shortcomings, such as performance (most PHP template engines are still relatively good in this regard) and the need to learn new syntax (occasionally).

Smarty

smarty is an official template for PHP. The previous official website address was http://smarty.php.net/. Because it was so popular, a new domain name was later enabled: http://www.smarty.net/.

Smarty is a php template engine. More precisely, it separates the logic program from the external content, providing an easy-to-manage approach. It can be described as application programmers and artists playing different roles, because in most cases, they cannot be the same person.

One of the features of Smarty is "template compilation". What this means is that Smarty reads template files and uses them to create php scripts. These scripts will be executed after they are created. Therefore, there is no need to spend syntax parsing of template files, and each template can enjoy accelerators such as Zend (http://www.zend.com) or PHP accelerator (http://www.php-accelerator.co.uk). Dwoo

Dwoo is a PHP5 template engine. Compatible with Smarty templates, it is completely rewritten based on Smarty syntax. Supports extending its functionality through plug-ins.

Savant

Savant is a powerful yet lightweight object-oriented PHP template engine. Unlike its template system, Savant does not compile templates into PHP by default, but uses PHP itself as its template language so you don't need to learn a new markup system. Savant has an object-oriented template plug-in system and output filters that allow you to quickly add new behaviors to it.
