HomeMobile TutorialiPhoneHow to share passwords with Apple's Shared Groups

Apple's iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS Sonoma introduce secure password sharing via groups within the Passwords system. However, there are limitations: all participants must use iOS 17/iPadOS 17/macOS Sonoma or later, be in your contacts, and the feature doesn't support Android, Windows, or web access. If these limitations are acceptable, Apple's built-in system offers a convenient, subscription-free solution.

Sharing Passwords on iPhone/iPad:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Passwords.
  2. Tap the " " icon, then New Shared Group.
  3. Name the group.
  4. Tap Add People and select contacts (those eligible will appear in blue).
  5. Tap Create.
  6. Select passwords to share and tap Move (passwords cannot be shared across multiple groups). You can skip this step using Not Now.
  7. Choose whether to notify group members. They'll see the invitation in Settings > Passwords > Group Invitations regardless.
