Locating Vahtacen

The Vahtacen ruins are situated south of Cheydinhal, east of the Imperial City. They're located at the northeastern end of the Reed River.

Completing the Quest

Upon entering Vahtacen, navigate the initial tunnel to reach the main ruins. Speak with Skaleel, a mage in the first chamber. She'll mention a pillar deeper within the ruins and provide a key to access it.

Solving the Pillar Puzzle

Find and speak to Denel, another mage, about the pillar puzzle. Examine the four tablets on the walls surrounding the pillar. Denel will mention a translation book held by Skaleel.

Retrieve the book from Skaleel and give it to Denel. He'll then be able to translate the tablets, revealing the correct spell sequence to activate the pillar.

Obtaining the Ancient Elven Helm

After correctly activating the pillar, speak to Denel and Skaleel before proceeding. Explore the rest of the ruins—a typical Ayelid ruin with enemies, traps, and mechanisms.

In the final chamber, locate a button at the rear of the room to raise a central platform. Another button atop this platform reveals the Ancient Elven Helm.

Return to Skaleel with the helm, and then return to Irlav Jarol at the Arcane University to complete the quest and advance the Mage's Guild questline.
