Apple's new Ambient Music feature for iPhone and iPad uses curated soundscapes to improve user well-being. Four categories—Chill, Productivity, Sleep, and Wellbeing—offer distinct audio experiences for different moods and activities.

To use Ambient Music, update your device to iOS 18.4 or iPadOS 18.4 (released March 31st). The app isn't directly accessible; instead, you add controls to Control Center, the Lock Screen, or the Action button.

Adding Ambient Music to Control Center:

  1. Open Control Center.
  2. Long-press the background to edit.
  3. Tap "Add a Control" and select "Ambient Music."
  4. Choose a category (Chill, Productivity, Sleep, Wellbeing).
  5. Resize the control (1x1 or 2x2).
  6. Select a playlist by tapping the control, then "Playlist."

  1. Long-press the Lock Screen wallpaper.

  • Productivity: Instrumental music for focus.
  • Sleep: Calming sounds for sleep.
  • Wellbeing: Uplifting melodies for mood improvement.

Control playback via Now Playing, Live Activity, or Dynamic Island. The Ambient Music app won't appear in the App Switcher until you interact with the player.
