Customize Your Smart Assistant's Voice: Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant Voice Options

We interact daily with smart assistants like Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant, using them for various tasks. To personalize the experience, you can change the voice and accent of these digital helpers. However, this feature isn't currently available for Windows' Cortana.

Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant all have alternate voices. Here’s how to find them.

Google Assistant:

Voice customization is available on smartphones, tablets, smart speakers, and smart displays, but not currently on Chromebooks or Wear OS smartwatches. To change the voice:

  1. Open the Google app (Android or iOS).
  2. Tap your profile picture (top right).
  3. Select "Assistant settings," then "Assistant voice."
  4. Choose a voice and listen to a preview.

This change applies to all devices linked to your Google account.

Siri:

Siri voice adjustments are possible on iPhones, iPads, Macs, and Apple Watches (excluding Apple TV, which only provides text-based responses).

  • iPhone/iPad: Go to Settings > Siri & Search > Siri Voice. Select a voice and accent from the available options (dependent on your region and language). The chosen voice will also be used on CarPlay and Apple Watch.

  • Mac: Access the change through Apple menu > System Preferences > Siri. Choose your preferred voice and listen to a preview. Note that Mac settings are not synced with iOS devices.

Alexa:

To alter Alexa's voice, use the Alexa app (Android or iOS):

  1. Tap "More" > "Settings" > "Device Settings."
  2. Select a device.
  3. Under "Language," choose a different language version.

Currently, Alexa offers limited voice variety beyond language selection. In the US, you can try saying, "Alexa, change your voice," or add a celebrity voice (Shaq, Melissa McCarthy, or Samuel L. Jackson) for $5. Keep in mind these celebrity voices have limited functionality.
