Something that Marvel Rivals does incredibly well is paying close attention to details, and that goes for everything, from characters to maps. All heroes and villains included in the game are filled with unique interactions with each other, and sometimes they can also interact directly with the game's arenas in unique ways.
One of these is through Recursive Destruction, a mechanic introduced to the game in Season 1 that lets you mess with the battle zones in unexpected ways. Causing havoc on the field is a valid way of securing that win, and you'll need to do it for certain missions.
What Is Recursive Destruction In Marvel Rivals?
Instead of regular scenario destruction, Recursive Destruction rebuilds the attacked objects instead. This mechanic lets you bring more elements to the map, having technically the same effect as regular destruction: changing how you can explore that map.
You could end up with some newfound cover where there was nothing before, or maybe a new building will rise out of a sudden. Maps end up slightly different, adding more different situations in each new match. Recursive Destruction is not available on all maps. Most of the areas are just breakable, removing platforms or sometimes blocking exits completely with the debris.
Certain Season missions and events ask you to trigger Recursive Destruction, so you'll have to play on specific maps to trigger it.
How To Trigger Recursive Destruction In Marvel Rivals
Recursive Destruction is triggered by hitting a red-glowing destructible object on a map until it is repaired. You can check them by using Chrono Vision (B on keyboard) and see if the object has a faint red glow with some lines around it. If it does, start focusing some attacks on it until it changes.
As of Season 1, Midtown is the only map with Recursive Destruction structures. You'll have to play specifically on it if you want to see these special effects, so don't bother looking for them on older maps.
If you want to trigger it quickly, select Quick Match (Midtown) in Play instead of the regular Quick Match. This ensures you'll always land in Midtown, where you'll eventually complete your Seasonal missions.
The giant broken giant Iron Map suit halfway through the map is one of the easiest objects to trigger Recursive Destruction. But if you can't trigger it, you can also find many buildings that can also trigger this effect. They're usually found on the third portion of the map. Using ranged characters is the best option for triggering the effect, as they'll easily hit those structures from afar. It won't hurt to ask your team for some help either.
They may also have yet to complete these missions, so everyone wins from that. Aside from eventual missions, you can also complete achievements related to Recursive Destruction, so triggering it whenever possible (if it doesn't happen by accident) is never a bad choice. And, of course, it can also help you immensely in securing a win.
