Leaker reveals new insights into the state of next-gen Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite chipsets

It seems that the Snapdragon X series is here to stay. Although neither Qualcomm nor its Windows OEM partners have announced anything yet, Roland Quandt has offered a few details about second-generation options. For context, Qualcomm developed current Snapdragon X Elite variants, of which there are three, under the codename 'Hamoa'.

Additionally, the X1E-78-100, X1E-80-100 and X1E-84-100 are all referred to internally as 'SC8380XP'. According to Quandt, Qualcomm started testing successors as far back as July, although this does not provide any indication of when they could reach retail status. To that end, Quandt believes that these prototypes were tested in development boards rather than future laptop motherboards.

Moreover, Quandt asserts that Qualcomm is developing these second-generation Snapdragon X Elite chips as 'Project Glymur' with the model number SC8480XP. For reference, Qualcomm appears to be codenaming its chipsets after waterfalls; Glymur is Iceland's second-tallest waterfall. Incidentally, Quandt has also provided initial information about a new Snapdragon X Plus chipset too, details of which we have covered separately.
