Leak reveals specs of an HMD phone with a Snapdragon 8 series chip and a modular design

This year HMD has churned out several smartphones carrying its own brand name instead of Nokia's. While there have been a few notable ones such as the HMD Skylineand the HMD Fusion, none of them are considered to be a flagship. However, that might change soon going by the alleged specs of an upcoming HMD phone in development.

The leaked specs were posted on X by the user @smashx_60, and they reveal the device, which has model number TA-1691, is codenamed 'Moon Knight'. According to the source, the phone will have a P-OLED display with an FHD resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. There's no mention of the screen size.

For the chipset, HMD is reportedly going for the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, the same one inside the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra (curr.€1,004 on Amazon.de). The source didn't say how much RAM it will have and what storage options will be available. However, it is stated that the phone will have quad rear cameras.

An interesting feature revealed by the leaker is that the phone will have POGO pins. Our guess is that the HMD Moon Knight will have a 'modular' design like the HMD Fusion which lets users attach cases that add extra functions to the phone.

In addition to the above, the phone will also have dual speakers; 5G support, obviously; and an aluminum frame. The source has added that other details including a render of the device will be revealed soon. Hopefully, key specs such as the camera configuration, battery capacity, and charging speed are contained in that leak.

The HMD Moon Knight is shaping up to be an interesting device considering HMD has focused on budget and mid-range smartphones for a few years now, even when it still launched Nokia-branded smartphones. The last flagship phone by the company was the Nokia 9 PureView which wasn't well-received.

As a matter of fact, the company revealed in early 2022 that it would no longer make flagship phones. Instead, it would focus on feature phones and entry-level and mid-range smartphones. It appears something has changed now going by the specs of this device. Sadly, this alleged device won't be launching under the Nokia brand name since HMD Global has stopped making Nokia-branded smartphones.
