The Garmin Forerunner 255 smartwatch has received a new update, software version 20.29. This stable release is available for all customers and follows hot on the heels of version 20.26, the first public release in the 20.xx cycle.
Garmin lists two bug fixes in the change log. An issue where some users experienced the wearable crashing at the start of an activity is resolved. Garmin has also sorted out a problem which led the incident detection tool to remain active after you have finished an activity. Interestingly, many users have noted in the forum that the battery performance of the wearable is improved after installing 20.29, following a battery drain issue with version 20.26. However, a smaller number of users have experienced the opposite.
Plus, there appears to be a concerning new bug with version 20.29. A couple of customers have reported that their connected Varia rearview radar accessories are not functioning as expected, with cars only displayed for a brief moment. Garmin has not advised when this problem will be resolved. The update should have been pushed to all Forerunner 255 smartwatches automatically. If not, you can manually trigger the update from Menu > System > Software Update > Check For Updates.
