Intel Core Ultra 7 268V delivers better iGPU and single-core performance than AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 in an early laptop review

Intel made the Lunar Lake official on September 3, and laptops with the new Core Ultra 200V series chips are expected to hit the shelves next week. However, ThinkView has already published their review of the Dell XPS 13 with Intel Core Ultra 7 268V

This Vietnamese review on the Lunar Lake laptop shows that the Core Ultra 7 268V can outperform the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 in a couple of aspects. First, the new Intel chip, which was paired with 32 GB of LPPDR5X, was shown to achieve a single-core score of 2,054 in Cinebench R23 at 15W.

In comparison, the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 was shown to score 2,049 in the same benchmark but at 21W. This highlights the power efficiency of the new Lunar Lake chipset. However, as ThinkView points out, the Apple M3 is more power efficient in this benchmark, achieving 1,932 at just 6W.

As for the multi-threaded performance, the tables turn in favor of the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. The Intel Core Ultra 7 268V could not even keep up with the Ryzen Z1 Extreme in this Cinebench R23 test. However, this isn't surprising, as both the AMD chipsets have a higher number of threads.

What's more interesting is that the Intel Arc 140V iGPU is shown to be a better performer than the Radeon 890M in Time Spy. The Lunar Lake iGPU got 3,715 points, while the RDNA 3.5 integrated graphics got 3,525. ThinkView also compares this score with the Radeon 780M, and that iGPU got 3,017 in the same benchmark.

This early review has shed light on the gaming performance too. At only 17W TDP, the ARC 140V offers over 30 FPS in Far Cry 6 and around 50 FPS in Black Myth: Wukong. It's unclear at what settings the games were tested and how the chip will perform at a higher TDP. However, this level of performance at such a low TDP means that the upcoming MSI Claw AI 8 could be a proper competitor to the Ryzen Z2 Extreme gaming handhelds (Intel Ultra 7 155H Claw curr. $637.99 on Amazon).
