Jane Doe is a stylish Physical damage dealer who is eyeing up the DPS position on your team. Let me show you everything you need to know in our Zenless Zone Zero (ZZZ) Jane Doe guide: W-Engines, Drive Discs, best builds, combos, and more.
Jane Doe is a superb damage dealer and easily one of the best DPS units in the game. You can likely find a use for her no matter what state your account is in, even if you’re rocking an F2P account.
If you already have Ellen or Zhu Yuan, you may want to give Jane a miss. That said, if you like her style, there are far worse ways to spend your Encrypted Master Tapes.
Don’t sweat if you miss out, as Powercreep is real in ZZZ, and the following unit will likely be at least on par with Jane.
If you’re a new or F2P player, the Inter-Knot Membership can be worth looking into, but it does have limitations.
Jane Doe has an intuitive gameplay loop, which is pretty easy to understand with some practice. We’ll dive into specifics shortly, but her unique feature, and the core of her kit, is her Passion Meter.
While in Passion state, Jane becomes a DPS monster, so we want to stay there as long as possible. Assuming you aren’t in Passion State, you can use a simple combo to fill the time.
This is a straightforward combo with zero execution, as you only press a single button:
There’s technically a Dash in the middle, but Jane performs it automatically, so there’s no need to worry about it.
The Passion Meter is the most important part of Jane’s kit. The Meter fills when you deal damage, and you can see the Meter filling in the top-left corner of the screen.
You can instantly fill the Passion Meter by using her Ultimate or a Chain Attack, so timing your abilities is crucial. You can also fill the meter by performing Perfect Dodges and Defensive Assists.
The Passion State triggers automatically once the Meter is full.
While in Passion State, Jane’s Anomaly Buildup rate increases dramatically. All of her regular moves are also upgraded, including her basic attack string. The Passion Meter will slowly drain, but it can be topped up with Perfect Dodges and Assists.
As Jane Doe’s options are wholly linked to her Meter usage, it’s hard to give a set rotation to dial in during battle.
When Jane’s meter is inactive, focus on filling it as fast as possible. Fish for Dodge Counter opportunities; if you can land one, you can do the following:
You can also use the same combination while her Meter is live, as it deals a ton of damage. Jane’s EX attack generates a ton of Meter, so use it to keep your Passion State uptime high.
One of the best parts about Jane Doe’s abilities is their simplicity. You kick out solid damage numbers as long as you weave Dodge Counters into your game plan and mash the Basic Attack button.
We’ve got a couple of decent options for W-Engine, although one is only accessible unless you’re extremely lucky.
Unsurprisingly, the Sharpened Stinger is fantastic for Jane as it’s her Signature W-Engine.
The Sharpened Stinger grants a stack of Predatory Instinct whenever you use a Dash Attack. Predatory Instinct increases your Physical Damage output based on the amount of stacks you have.
You can also earn three Predatory Instinct Stacks immediately by performing a Perfect Dodge.
Rainforest Gourmet is a solid F2P option if you can’t get Sharpened Stinger. The W-Engine grants an ATK bonus based on Energy consumption. This effect makes Rainforest Gourmet easy to use, as it bestows passive buffs without any extra input.
You have 6 Drive Disc slots to play with in ZZZ, which usually makes a 4-piece and 2-piece set the most optimal. You earn set bonuses at those amounts, so here are a few recommendations:
Fanged Metal is arguably the best 4-Piece Disc Drive for Jane Doe, as both set bonuses are impactful. The 2-Piece Bonus is free damage for us, and the 35% damage boost is huge for an Agent who already boasts some of the highest DPS output in the game.
Hormone Punk can be used for the 4-Piece bonus, although Fanged Metal is better overall. This Drive Disc set offers free damage across the board. The 4-Piece bonus is also easy to activate, although the cooldown can make it slightly clumsy.
The Freedom Blues 2-Piece bonus is great for Jane, although it can be tough to get value from the 4-Piece set.
Jane loves to be on the field as much as possible as if she’s not there, she’s not building meter or dealing damage. Koleda is a great co-op partner, as she does a ton of burst damage and can daze opponents.
You can briefly swap to Koleda, deal your burst damage, and swap back.
Seth is a phenomenal Support pick for Jane Doe, as he can bestow Anomaly Buffs.
As we know, Jane loves maximum uptime, so Grace is another great partner for her. Grace doesn’t require a ton of field presence to be effective and can quickly kick out a ton of Shock damage.
Seth remains the go-to support Agent, but use whoever you have available. Nicole and even Lucy are serviceable replacements.
Bangboo bring up the rear in any team, and are another easy way to squeeze even more DPS out of your comp.
You need a pair of N.E.P.S Agents (Jane and Seth, for example) in your squad to make Officer Cui work. Officer Cui’s abilities pair nicely with Jane’s kit, inflicting tons of Physical Damage.
Bangvolver is another superb choice as they deal Physical damage which synergizes with Jane Doe’s attribute.
Last but not least, let’s talk about farming materials. These are required to rank up Jane Doe to the max level and fully upgrade her Skills and Core Skills:
If you lucked out and snagged Ellen when she was available, ensure you’ve built her correctly, as she’s still one of the best DPS Agents in the game.
