Rumours about a new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 variant called the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition have been picking up steam in the past few weeks. Speculations about its hardware have been all over the place, with one suggesting it could be the thinnest foldable ever developed by Samsung, while another stated it could borrow the Galaxy S24 Ultra's 200 MP camera sensor. Now, we get our first look at the foldable thanks to Android Headlines.
For the most part, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition looks nearly identical to a regular Galaxy Z Fold 6. A closer look at its chassis will reveal a brushed metal finish. Additionally, its camera housing is a lot thicker and a not as circular. Other than that, it is difficult to gauge how the two phones differ, especially in pivotal parts like the hinge and crease. Button placement seems to be identical across both SKUs, as is the front-facing camera's position on the external screen.
Previously, it was revealed that the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition would be just 10.6 mm when folded and 4.9 mm when open. While this is nowhere close to the sleek profiles offered by Xiaomi's Mi Mix Fold 4 and Vivo'x X Fold 3 Pro, it shaves off 1.5 mm off the Galaxy Z Fold 6's 12.1 mm thin chassis, and that is a step in the right direction. Unfortunately, the phone might not be as widely available as a regular Galaxy Z Fold 6 due to its limited launch. Besides, you're probably better off buying the regular version as the special edition might not some with S-Pen support.
