Retroid Pocket 5 confirmed to challenge retro gaming handheld with lightweight and compact form factor despite 5.5-inch AMOLED display

Retroid is edging towards fully announcing the Pocket 5, one of two gaming handhelds by the company that appear to be in an advanced stage of development. For reference, the other is the Pocket Mini, which Retroid has based around a 3.7-inch display. By contrast, the Pocket 5 will grace the gaming handheld market with a 5.5-inch display that not only outputs at 1080p but also relies on an AMOLED panel.

In comparison, the older Pocket 4 utilises a noticeably smaller display, which spans 4.7-inches across. Nonetheless, the Pocket 5 is hardly any bigger than its predecessor. As the image below shows, the Pocket 4 clocks in at 184.8 x 82.6 x 15.8 mm while weighing 261 g.

In comparison, the Pocket 5 is over 7% heavier at 280 g. With that being said, Retroid's new gaming handheld will be a fair bit lighter than 6-inch rivals like the AYANEO Pocket S and AYN Odin2 (curr. $449 on Amazon), which weigh 350 g and 420 g, respectively. Moreover, the Pocket 5 measures 199.2 x 78.5 x 15.6 mm. Consequently, the device is shorter and thinner than its predecessor but 14.4 mm wider. Purportedly, Retroid will confirm more details about the Pocket 5 this week, including which Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset underpins the device.
