Google does not advertise the Pixel 9 Pro (curr. $999.99 on Amazon) or the Pixel 9 Pro XL as having an infrared thermometer like the Pixel 8 Pro. In fact, the company did not even mention its nascent technology during last week's launch event. Nonetheless, the thermometer hardware is still present on both new smartphones, as is support for Google's Thermometer app.
According to recent reports, Google has started rolling out a new app update too, which has landed as v1.0.654975759. Reportedly, the update introduces several new features to all three smartphones, although Google has not started shipping the Pixel 9 Pro or Pixel 9 Pro XL yet. Nonetheless, the app will now show an overlay to simplify aligning the sensor with an object.
Moreover, the app provides visual feedback about whether an object is too small to measure or whether one should move the sensor closer to maximise accuracy. On top of that, v1.0.654975759 allows frequently measured object to be added to the home screen to reduce the time it takes to re-measure something.
