OneXPlayer OneXGPU 2 becomes official with unreleased AMD Radeon GPU

OneNetbook has announced the OneXGPU 2, the successor to the company's eGPU solution launched last year. One of the big highlights of the first offering was the OCuLink port, which can deliver higher bandwidth than USB4 or Thunderbolt 4. So, even if competitors pack the same graphics card, such as the recently released Wiko Hi GT Cube, the OneXGPU can offer better gaming performance.

Speaking of graphics cards, OneNetbook has confirmed that the OneXGPU 2 will be featuring a yet-to-be-released GPU, the Radeon RX 7800M. As per the official teaser, it's an RDNA 3graphics card, and that's pretty much all that OneNetbook has shared.

While no further details have been shared by AMD either, it seems that the Radeon RX 7800M could be the first Navi 32 mobile GPU. To look back, AMD announced Navi 32 back in September last year, and the already available desktop RX 7700 XTand RX 7800 XTare based on it.

If this speculation holds true, the OneXGPU 2 could be the first Navi 32 mobile eGPU solution. Now, while Navi 32 has about twice as many cores as Navi 33 and a double memory bus, its desktop options require a good amount of power. For reference, the Radeon RX 7700 XThas a minimum power draw of 245W.

The Radeon RX 7600M, which the OneXGPU packed, has a specified TGPrange of 50W to 90W. Given that there's no concrete info about the RX 7800M, it's not clear whether the power draw of the new graphics card will be in a similar range.

Another thing that's worth mentioning is that most of the eGPU solutions with a GPU inside have been relying on the AMD Radeon RX series of graphics cards. It's because the Nvidia RTX 40 seriesdoesn't have an ultra-portable offering yet. So, AMD basically has total control over this niche market.

As for the performance, the AMD Radeon RX 7600M can deliver about twice the frames when compared to the Radeon 780M. The RX 7800M will almost certainly be faster because it's a higher-end graphics card. More will be clear when OneNetbook shares additional details about the OneXGPU 2 (first-gen OneXGPU available on Amazon).
