According to news on April 28, Wu Kai, chief scientist of CATL, revealed the latest demonstration of the company’s all-solid-state battery research and development at the CIBF2024 Advanced Battery Technology Seminar held today. According to Wu Kai, if technology and manufacturing maturity are used as the evaluation criteria (1-9 scoring system), CATL's research and development in the field of all-solid-state batteries has currently reached a level of 4 points.

Wu Kai further pointed out that the company has set a clear goal to increase the technology and manufacturing maturity of all-solid-state batteries to a level of 7-8 by 2027. This marks that CATL is expected to achieve small-volume production of all-solid-state batteries at that point in time. However, he also admitted that although small batch production is very possible, mass production will still face many challenges such as cost control.

Zeng Yuqun, chairman of CATL, also expressed his views on the development of solid-state batteries in his speech earlier this year. He believes that although the commercial application of solid-state batteries for electric vehicles is still several years away and there are "many obstacles" in its development, he is still confident in solid-state batteries.

Zeng Yuqun emphasized that he personally supports solid-state battery technology and has invested in this field for 10 years. He follows the progress of the R&D team every month and therefore has a deep understanding of the development status of the entire solid-state battery technology. Despite this, he bluntly pointed out that there are still obvious problems with the current development status of solid-state battery technology.
