Apple denies violating U.S. court order in Epic Games lawsuit, urges judge to dismiss 'contempt of court' charges
According to Reuters, Apple is said to have denied violating a court order governing its App Store on Friday local time, prompting federal officials in California to respond to charges filed by Epic Games. Apple said Epic's accusations were "baseless."

# Apple’s filing criticized Epic’s attempts to make Apple’s tools and technology “free” to developers. It said Epic wants the court to micromanage Apple's business operations "in a manner that enhances Epic's profitability." Apple added that the external purchase link permissions were designed and implemented to "comply with the court's injunction" while still providing a safe and secure App Store for users.
Epic declined to comment, and Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the dispute.
Apple made the claims in a filing before U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers in Oakland. Yvonne accepted a lawsuit from Epic Games in 2020, when Epic accused Apple of violating antitrust laws by tightly controlling how consumers download apps and pay transaction fees in apps.
Epic largely lost its lawsuit with Apple, but Rogers ordered Apple in 2021 to give developers greater freedom to guide app users to alternative payment methods for digital goods.
According to previous reports on this site, Epic launched an attack on Apple last month, accusing Apple of being in contempt of court and violating the ban in three aspects by applying the new payment external link regulations. Apple issued a rare statement at the time, responding directly to Epic: As of January 16, 2024, Apple has fully complied with all European regulatory requirements.
