Apple dominates: It will own half of the global smartphone market revenue in 2023
News on February 4, market research organization Counterpoint Research recently released a report on the global smartphone market in 2023. The report shows that although global smartphone shipments dropped by 4% in 2023 to 1.17 billion units, market revenue is still close to US$410 billion, equivalent to approximately 2.9489 billion yuan. Remarkably, Apple alone accounts for half of the global smartphone market revenue through the sales of its iPhone.
The report details that the average selling price of the global smartphone market will increase by 2% in 2023, reaching US$350 for the first time, which is equivalent to approximately 2,517 yuan in RMB. Against this background, the average selling price of Apple's iPhone also increased by 2% year-on-year, reaching a record high of US$890, which is equivalent to approximately 6,401 yuan in RMB. This brings Apple's annual revenue from the iPhone to a staggering US$203 billion, equivalent to approximately 1.46 trillion yuan, accounting for half of the global smartphone market revenue.
According to the editor’s understanding, Apple will account for 20% of global mobile phone shipments in 2023, which means that Apple will only account for one-fifth of its shipments. It earns half of the world’s mobile phone revenue. This achievement undoubtedly demonstrates Apple's strong influence and high-end positioning in the global smartphone market. Meanwhile, Counterpoint Research also pointed out that Apple is further promoting the high-end trend of the smartphone market, and it is expected that in the near future, more mobile phone brands will join the competition in the high-end market. In 2023, the wholesale price of one in every four smartphones will exceed US$600, equivalent to approximately 4,315 yuan in RMB, which once again proves the potential and attractiveness of the high-end mobile phone market.
