According to a report by "Late Auto", NIO's sub-brand "Alps" (internal code name) has recently made a series of adjustments, including the basic integration of autonomous driving research and development and smart cockpit-related businesses with the NIO brand. After adjustment, Alpine’s intelligent driving and intelligent cockpit teams will be merged with the corresponding departments of NIO. NIO plans to establish direct-operated stores with Alps in the third quarter of this year and will be launched at the same time. Weilai does not plan to share stores with Alps, but will share part of the service network.
According to Qin Lihong, Weilai’s internal project is codenamed “Alpine” and is mainly positioned in the mid-range market, directly competing with Tesla, Toyota, Volkswagen and other brand products. After this adjustment, the Alpine brand will more fully realize its potential and bring NIO a stronger competitive advantage in the mid-range market.
