Goertek and Qualcomm have collaborated to launch an innovative mixed reality (MR) reference design based on the newly released second-generation Snapdragon XR2 platform. The design is based on the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 platform and the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 platform and aims to promote the development of MR and VR head-mounted display products. This cooperation is expected to lay a solid foundation for the further development of MR technology.
It is reported that the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 platform supports single-eye 3K resolution, is equipped with 10 parallel cameras, and has a built-in dedicated XR acceleration module. The more advanced Snapdragon XR2 The Gen2 platform supports 4.3K resolution per eye, smooth images at 90 frames per second, and 12 or more parallel cameras, providing users with a clearer and immersive visual experience. At the same time, the platform’s full-color video see-through function has a delay as low as 12 milliseconds, allowing users to obtain more natural real-time feedback when observing the external environment through the camera.
The MR reference design launched this time integrates Goertek’s independently developed new generation 3P Pancake lens, which can be used with MicroOLED displays to provide a single-eye 4K resolution display. . The field of view (FOV) reaches 95° and the angular resolution (PPD) is as high as 44, which not only improves the contrast, but also significantly improves the ghost problem. Users can enjoy an unprecedented visual feast.
In order to meet the needs of different application scenarios, this reference design uses a binocular full-color video see-through solution (VST) with a resolution of up to 6 million pixels. At the same time, the optimized four-camera 6DoF (degree of freedom) solution provides higher-precision tracking performance. In addition, it also supports Ultraleap's hand tracking solution, allowing users to obtain a more natural and accurate experience during interaction.
According to our understanding, Goertek and Qualcomm have been cooperating to develop VR/MR reference designs based on the Snapdragon platform since 2015, and have continued to innovate. This cooperation has achieved remarkable results and injected new vitality into the development of the MR field. Qualcomm also announced that it will work closely with at least five hardware manufacturers, including HTC, to jointly promote the development and launch of new products. Although the specific launch date has not yet been announced, I believe that consumers will have the opportunity to experience the charm of these innovative products in the near future.
